 From the vibrant kitchens of Mexico City to the breathtaking peaks of Jackson Hole, Wyoming, Chef Oscar Ortega has dedicated his life to the art of pastry. His journey began with formal training at Italy's esteemed Cast Alimenti, where he cultivated a deep passion for chocolate, sugar work, and the delicate craft of baking. He spent years perfecting his skills across the U.K., Italy, France, and the U.S. before settling in Jackson Hole.
In 2004, Ortega poured his vision into Cioccolato, a pastry shop that quickly became a local sensation. This success led to the expansion and creation of Atelier Ortega (AO), his flagship business, where he crafts a stunning array of artisan chocolates, confections, and breads. The culmination of this dedication was realized in 2025, when Atelier Ortega was named a finalist for the prestigious James Beard Award for Outstanding Bakery.
Ortega's talent has earned him international acclaim. He was the first Mexican Chocolate Master, competing in the World Chocolate Masters Finals, and has captained and competed on numerous international pastry teams. He has also shared his expertise as a judge and manager for the Gelato World Cup and as the head pastry coach for the USA pastry team.
Today, Ortega continues to innovate. He runs his second Jackson Hole shop, CocoLove, a retail boutique for his creations, and helms two other companies that support the culinary industry. His story is one of a tireless dedication to his craft, transforming a passion for pastry into a world-renowned brand.
